How to set up a Medical ID on iPhone and Apple Watch

iPhones and Apple smartwatches have a feature called Medical ID that allows people to see important medical information about you in an emergency. In an emergency, anyone can see your doctor's card without unlocking your phone.

To set up this feature on your iPhone and Apple Watch:

1- How to make an emergency medical card on the iPhone:

Follow these steps to set up an emergency medical card on your iPhone:

  1. Open the Health app and go to the (Summary) tab at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Click on your personal account icon that appears in the upper right corner and then click on the "Emergency Medical Card" option.
  3. Click the Get Started button and fill in all the information you want to include on your medical ID. You can add the following details:

  • Name, age and photo.
  • Medical conditions you have, such as blood pressure, diabetes, or other medical conditions.
  • Medical records show, for example, that you have a pacemaker.
  • the type of allergy you have.
  • Medications you are currently taking.
  • blood type.
  • Weight and height.
  • Your main language.
  • Emergency contacts and their phone numbers.

4. Make sure you add at least one contact that you can call in case of an emergency. If you use the emergency SOS function, this contact will receive a message indicating your location.

5. Scroll down and enable the (Show when locked) option. This is required if you want first responders to be able to see your Medical ID without unlocking your phone. You can also enable sharing during emergency calls if you want your medical ID to be automatically shared with emergency services when you call them.

Please ensure that all information you add to your Medical ID is correct. Remember that anyone who has your iPhone can see any data you add, so don't add anything you don't want someone to know.

2- How to set up an Emergency Medical Card on Apple Watch:

The Medical ID on your Apple Watch shows the details you added on the iPhone that's paired with your watch. So make sure to set up an ID on your iPhone first, then follow these steps:

  1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, then go to the My Watch tab.
  2. Scroll down and tap the Health app, then select Medical ID.
  3. Make sure all the details are correct and click the Edit button if you need to make any changes.

Having a Medical ID on your Apple Watch is important because many first responders look to patients' medical wristbands for some of their medical information, so having a Medical ID on your Apple Watch can be more helpful than having one on your phone in an emergency.
