How to password protect notes app
To use the lock feature to protect the Notes app, make sure your macOS is updated to the latest version available. Here are the steps to use this feature on a MacBook Pro running macOS Ventura 13:
1. Open the Notes app on your computer.
2. On the Notes home page, click the New Note icon or click the File button and choose New Note.
3. You cannot use the lock feature until something has been added to the note. The first thing you need to enter is a title for the note, and the lock button becomes available after adding content to the note.
4. When you have written all the information in your new note, tap on the lock icon that appears in the top right corner and then tap on the Lock Note option.
5. Set a password for the note. You have two options: Use the same password to log into your Mac, or create a separate password for the note. Keep in mind that you cannot create a different password for each note.
Whether you choose a computer login password or a separate password, that password is the same for all closed notes. It's a good idea to create a separate password in case someone knows your Mac's login password. So, in the pop-up window, click on the Create Password option.
6. In the popup, type and confirm the password that you want to use to lock the note. Then click the "Set password" button.
It is important to know that you cannot recover your Notes password if you have forgotten it. If your computer has a fingerprint sensor, you will be prompted to enable Touch ID.
Once you set a password for your note, you will be prompted for the password each time you try to view a locked note, and you will see a warning that the note is locked. When this warning appears, tap Enter Password and enter the password to open Sticky Notes.
