WhatsApp is the most famous instant messaging application, we usually use it to communicate with our friends, family and work colleagues, it leads to many ongoing conversations and it is difficult to follow all the conversations, but the application provides a feature that allows you to temporarily hide individual, group and group chats from the main screen of the application and restore them at any time time.
The WhatsApp archive feature allows you to hide any individual or group conversation from the chat screen until you are ready to bring it back to the main screen. It helps you organize your conversations better, and if you use WhatsApp for work, you can also remove distractions.
Your contacts or groups won't know when you've archived their conversations and you'll still hear them as normal, but you won't be notified about hidden conversations unless someone contacts you or directly replies to your messages.
How to hide conversations in WhatsApp without deleting them :
If you are using an Android phone, you can archive any conversation by following these steps:
- Access the WhatsApp application on your phone.
- Press and hold on the conversation you want to hide, then tap the archive icon that appears in the upper-right corner, which is a folder with a down arrow.
- If you want to hide multiple chats and groups at once, select them all and click on the archive icon that appears in the upper right corner.
After you archive your first conversation, WhatsApp will display the Archived Conversations tab at the top of the home screen, and you can just tap on it to access and interact with the conversation.
If you are using an iPhone, you can follow the steps below to hide conversations in WhatsApp.
- Open WhatsApp on your phone.
- Swipe left on the chat you want to hide and tap on the archive icon.
To restore conversations from archives:
If you want to see the archived conversations again in the main conversations screen, just go to the Archived conversations tab at the top of the main screen, press and hold on the conversation you want to restore, and then press the button that appears in the upper right corner.
If you want to restore all archived chats at once, you can follow the steps below:
- Click on the three dots icon in the upper right corner and then click on the Settings option.
- Click on the (Chat) option.
- Scroll down to the Keep chat archives option and tap the toggle next to it to turn it off.
