Instagram Reels launched in 2019 and has quickly become the fastest growing feature on the app globally, with nine out of 10 users watching Reels every day. But sometimes some users face crashes that prevent them from uploading reels to their account or watching clips shared by others.
If you are having trouble downloading new Reels or viewing posted ones, the following methods may help:
1- Check your internet connection:
If you are unable to watch or download movies to your phone, there may be a problem with your Internet connection, especially if you see the following message: (Could not update streaming).
Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data. If you have multiple devices connected to the same internet network, your internet speed may drop, causing tracks to not load quickly.
2- Clear cache:

- Open the Settings app on your phone.
- Click on Applications and select Instagram.
- Click Storage and Caching options.
- Click on the option (Clear Cache) and then click on (Clear Storage).
3- Update the Instagram app:
Using an outdated version of the Instagram app can also be the reason why Reels crashes. To update the app to the latest version available, go to the App Store if you have an iPhone or the Google Play Store if you have an Android phone, then search for Instagram and click the Update button.
4- Log out of your account:
If updating the app didn't fix the scrolling issue, logging out of your account and logging back in to the Instagram app might help.
To sign out, tap your account picture in the lower right corner of the Instagram app. After that, go to (Settings) and click on the (Sign Out) option.
After that, log back into your account and check if Reels clips are available and you can download new clips.
5- Disable Instagram data saver:
The Instagram app includes a data saving feature that prevents content from loading until the app is opened. When activated, less mobile data is used, but the reels take longer to start playing.
If this feature is enabled and you find that it does not make Reels work, here is how you can disable it on your Android phone:
- Click on your account picture and go to Settings.
- Go to Accounts and select Use Cellular Data.
- Disable the data saver option.
If you are an iPhone user, follow these steps:
- Click on your account picture and go to Settings.
- Click on Mobile data option and then click on Mobile data options.
- Disabled (low data mode).
6- With the Instagram Lite version:
If your phone's internal storage is low and you often have trouble loading reels, you can download Instagram Lite instead of Instagram.
The Instagram Lite version does not take up much storage space on your phone and consumes less mobile data. Although it has some differences from Instagram, you can watch Reels in the lite version.
7- Reinstall the Instagram app:
If you've tried all of the previous methods and still can't view or download roles, consider reinstalling the app, especially if you find that other features have stopped working as well.
8- Report a problem:
If none of the previous methods work, as a last resort, you can try to report a problem by following these steps:
- Open the Instagram app and tap your profile picture.
- Click the three-line button, then select Settings, then Help.
- Click Report a Problem, then click Report a Problem again on the popup.
- Write down the problem details and attach screenshots so that they can understand the problem better.
- After completing the report, click on the (Submit) button.
