iPhone and Mac users can easily check their device's battery status from the Settings app, allowing them to decide the most appropriate time to replace the battery. However, for iPads, the situation is different because Apple has not added an option like iPhone. And Mac Similar to the battery health check, you can check the iPad battery health to determine when it needs to be replaced using an alternative method that we explain below:
1- Browse the battery charge history:
iPad saves maximum battery charge percentage and number of charge cycles as records, and you can use them to check iPad battery status by following these steps:
1- Access the Settings app and select Privacy and Security.
2- Click on the “Analysis and Improvement” option, then on “Data Analysis”.
3- Click on the most recent file that appears at the top of the screen and its name includes the latest date, for example: (Analytics-2023-03-26-100006.ips.ca.synced).
4- When the journal opens, copy and paste the text it contains into the Notes app or any other text editing application. Or click on the Share option to send it to another device, for example a Mac computer, and open it with a text editor.
5- Then open the data set, and find the expression (MaximumCapacityPercent), and next to it you will find a number indicating the current maximum capacity of the battery.
6- You can also search for the word (CycleCount) on the same page, and next to it you will find a number that describes the current number of charging cycles that the battery has gone through, which is another factor that affects the health of the battery in general. New iPads should retain about 80% of their total battery capacity after 1,000 full charge cycles.
2- Using third-party applications:
If you're having trouble reading your battery charge history, you can use a third-party app like iMazing to measure your iPad's battery status. To use this app, you need to connect your iPad to a Mac or Windows computer. This is a paid app with a free trial that lets you check the battery status just once.
To get started with the iMazing app, download it to your computer and follow these steps:
- Click the Continue Trial button to use your free trial.
- Connect your iPad to your computer, then click on your iPad's name in the bar on the left side of the app.
- Click on the battery icon that appears in the lower right corner and you will see information about the iPad's battery.
- Check the Battery Effective Max data for the maximum battery capacity for your iPad.
- Search for "battery cycles" to see how many charge cycles your iPad battery has completed.
When should I replace the iPad battery?
Instead of relying on the battery life percentage, consider replacing your iPad battery whenever you notice a problem with your device, such as a dead battery.
If you find these issues recurring, you can get iPad battery replacements from Apple starting at $99 for the iPad, iPad Air, and iPad Mini models, and $119 for the iPad Pro models. To find out the cost of replacing a battery for your iPad model, go to the iPad Repair & Service page, type in the model name, and you'll see an approximate price for the battery.
