Through a service called (Google Takeout), Google allows you to easily export and upload your data to one of its services, such as Google Takeout. B: Gmail, Calendar, Google Photos, YouTube, and many more.
What is this service? How can you use it to download your data from any Google service?
First, what is Google Takeout?
(Google Takeout) is a lesser-known Google service that collects your Google Account data in one place and allows you to export a copy of the account's contents to archive backups or use it for other external services.
If you work in a company or educational institution, you have probably heard about this service, as it is commonly used to transfer employee data to another Google account when they leave the company, and it also provides a quick way for data from Google Drive, which allows you to save a copy of important data on your computer or free up space in your Google Drive by archiving old files.
Google allows you to download your Gmail data in MBOX or JSON files which should allow you to make offline backups or move all your emails to another email service or a new Gmail account.
second; What data can you download through the service?
If you're signed in to your Google account and go to the Google Takeout homepage, you'll see an updated list of Google services to which you can upload data. There are currently 48 different data sources that you can include for your takeaway.
This list includes data from all Google services that you use, such as for example:
- Your data in popular services such as: Gmail, Google Drive, Google Photos, Chrome, Keep, Arts & Culture, and YouTube.
- Data about your activities on the Google Play Store, Google Play Books and Google Play Game Services.
- Account activity data. This section contains login history data including: the date and time you used your Gmail account and the IP address used to access your account.
- Geolocation and location history preferences.
- Data from your Android device settings.
- Data from your smart home devices, eg: Google Nest Hub.
Third, how to download your data with Google Takeout:
- Go to the Google Takeout page.
- You'll see a long list of all the Google products and services you use. This menu is enabled automatically, but to prevent downloading data from a specific product, uncheck the box next to that product.
- If you only want to download Gmail data, tap Uncheck all at the top of the list.
- Scroll down to Mail and check the box next to it.
- You will see that you can upload files in multiple formats, for example b. MBOX and JSON, since messages and attachments from a Gmail account are in MBOX format and user settings are in JSON format, allowing you to easily convert your Gmail data for transfer to a new account or other service.
- By default, all Gmail messages from all categories are included. If you want to customize this, click the option (Include all email data) and uncheck the box next to the option to include all messages in email.
- Select the desired folder and press OK.
- Scroll down the list until you reach the Next option, tap on it.
- Here you can choose how you want to download your Gmail feed. This can be a download link sent to an email address or a file added to your Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or Box account.
- You can also select the file type - zip (compressed) or tgz - and its size, and when done, click Create Export Options.
- Depending on how much data you have downloaded, Google will start archiving your data and send it to you via the method you chose.
- When the archiving process is complete, Takeout will send you an email with a link to download the archive file. You can click on the (download archive) option to start the download like any other file.
