TikTok announces a move to piss off viewers and delight creators

(TikTok) announced today, Tuesday, that it has added a new way for content creators to monetize the platform by making certain videos exclusive to people who pay to watch them.

A new short video utility called (TikTok Series) TikTok Series also allows content creators to post videos that are longer than usual.

The company said in a blog post that the new program will allow content creators to create a series of videos that will be available for purchase.

Each group can contain up to 80 videos, and clips can be up to 20 minutes long, making TikTok, known for its short videos, as close to YouTube as possible.

Creators can set their price from $1 to $190, and fans can purchase access from a direct link in the video or from the creator's profile page.

It should be noted that the monetization model for paid content is very similar to what other platforms like Patreon and OnlyFans offer, but the content policies on TikTok remain the same.

The company said the paid video feature is now available to select creators and is working to roll it out to more people in the coming months.

Once launched, TikTok will allow content creators to receive any revenue they make from videos, excluding App Store and Play fees, which means around 30% of revenue will be deducted from content creators, specifically in the Apple App Store.

After the end of this period, the company did not disclose its share of the proceeds. However, he said purchases must be made through the TikTok app, but creators can use the series' new website to post videos and track performance.

TikTok has rolled out a number of monetization tools and options for creators in recent months, hoping to boost its growth in the US and compete with other platforms like YouTube.

Helping content creators make money, which means ensuring their continuity on the platform, is seen as a top priority for the company, especially with competitors like YouTube offering short videos vying with TikTok to split advertising revenue opportunities.

Notably, TikTok's announcement today comes about two weeks after it launched its new revenue-sharing program with creators, the Creativity Program, which promises higher profits than the current Creators Fund program.
