I purchased an ASUS Zen mesh Wi-Fi system to replace a three year old Linksys Velop mesh system that was giving us problems. We are starting to lose a lot of wifi. I checked the Linksys app and found that the node router has a weak signal and nothing is connected to it. I checked the knot, unplugged it and put it back on a few times, but the light slowly died down and came back on again. I've never really liked the Velop system. I don't like having to be online and have a Linksys account to use the app. Supposedly you could log in with your router password, but it never worked. When I first set up the Velop system, I had to go through a lot of tech support knowing I needed to set up separate 2.4G and 5G networks to use the Sonos home theater system. I only bought it because Apple discontinued airport routers and sold Linksys. An automated message on the Velop Helpline indicates that a recent firmware update may be causing problems and you may need to factory reset and set up the router again. Two things I really don't want to do is restart WiFi and set it up again. So I'm not sure if it's a problem with the router or if it's a firmware issue, but I don't want to go into it. Of course, this is about a week from the beginning of the 3-year warranty. So I searched online and decided to try ASUS. Easy setup via the app on my iPad. The option to split 2.4G and 5G is also part of the setup. I also didn't have to create an online account to use the Asus app to set up or check the system. The app is easy to use. It is easy to view a list of devices connected to the main router and nodes. The only strange thing is that the app shows the name of our desktop computer, but the mobile device is identified by a number. I need to find out which number belongs to which device and rename it. It is important to identify our devices to ensure that no one joins our network without permission. We have been using it for more than a week and everything is fine. More wifi, good signal all over the house, including the ground floor (the router is upstairs) and the patio. We play a lot of movies and TV, not games. I agree with one of the reviewers who said 2.4g isn't very fast. We have a 500Mbps server. I used an ISP speed test and found we got around 150Mbps on 2.4G and 500Mbps on 5G. I can't comment on their tech support because luckily I don't have to use it! Very happy with the Asus Zen system, it seems to work all the time, no need to think about it.
