A new report indicates that the number of dangerous DDOS attacks has increased dramatically in 2022.
An analysis by QRator Labs shows that the number and duration of attacks has increased significantly in 2022 compared to the previous year. The minimum number of the last 10 months is also much higher than the highest value in the past.
Attack rejection times increased tenfold in just one year, indicating that attackers' hardware capabilities continued to grow.
Breaking down the numbers, Krator said the total number of attacks was up 73% year-over-year, and that the at-risk participants focused primarily on media (18.5%), payment systems (13%), and banks (10%).
Alexander Lyamin, founder of Creator Labs, explains: “Banks and payment systems are the most profitable sectors for attackers, and when there is a social or political conflict in society, the media is always the target.”
The report shows that the majority of attacks accounted for 43.2% in the first quarter of this year, declining to 23.3% in the second quarter and 20.5% in the third quarter. The fourth quarter of 2022 saw 13.11% of the total number of attacks.
Regarding the duration of the attack, they also witnessed it more than ten times over the course of 12 months. Although the maximum denial attack duration was about 10 hours in the first quarter of 2022, the duration in the same period in 2022 was more than 10 days. The sophistication of these attacks has also increased.
One of the main reasons for refusing to delete the duration of the attack is that the threatened participants no longer need to optimize the use of the large rush of bots.
The researchers also found that hackers have rich resources, which means that botnets in botnets are powerful enough to attack for several weeks.
