Many people use Android smartwatches (like the Galaxy Watch and Pixel Watch) to track their exercise and record the distance they run or walk, but if the GPS on the smartwatch stops working, these features won't work.
The GPS used by your smart watch relies on satellite communication and many factors can disrupt this communication, such as: b: tall buildings near your location or storms and clouds.
Enabling battery saving mode also disables GPS to conserve battery life. So if you are having issues with GPS not working on your watch, check if it is not enabled and if the problem persists, try one of the following solutions to fix it:
1- Restart the watch:
If the GPS connection drops while you are inside a building, exit the building. If GPS does not connect automatically, stay outside and restart the watch. If the GPS on your watch keeps dropping when you are inside a building, the building itself or surrounding structures may be causing the problem.
2- Reconnect your phone and look in the bluetooth:
If your watch and phone are not connected via Bluetooth, reconnecting may enable GPS on the watch.
3- Update the operating system per hour and apply it to the phone:
The GPS stuck issue may be related to the operating system of the watch and has been fixed in a new update. So go to Settings on your watch to see if an update is available, then look for Software Update. If an update is available, follow the onscreen instructions to install it.
If you're using a Samsung Galaxy Watch, you can also check the App Store for watch app updates on your phone, eg B. in the Galaxy Wearables app.
4- Try other apps that use GPS:
GPS issues can be isolated to one app but not all watch apps. Test this by switching to another app that uses GPS, such as MapMyRun.
Open the app of your choice and view the map or GPS plotter. If the correct location is displayed, you know that the GPS is working and that there is a problem with the previously used application. In this case, check for an app update or uninstall and reinstall it to try to fix the GPS not working issue.
5- Remove the metal tape:
If you choose a metal band for your smartwatch, this may be the cause of the GPS problems. Since the GPS sensors of phones and smartwatches are affected when there is a lot of metal around, the metal band of the watch can interfere with the GPS signal.
Replace the strap with a non-metallic strap, or test this solution by removing the strap and restarting the watch if you don't have a spare strap on hand. If the GPS starts to work after removing the wristband, please replace it with a non-metallic wristband to avoid the same problem in the future.
