If you are using wireless headphones (AirPods) from Apple and you forgot them somewhere or they were stolen, you can use the Find My app on your iPhone or iPad to find them. Find My is the only way to track the location of every Apple device you own.
However, if you didn't set up the app on your iPhone or iPad before you lost your headphones, you won't be able to use Find My to locate your AirPods. On the other hand, make sure that your iPhone or iPad's operating system is updated to the latest version before trying to locate your AirPods.
To set up Find My on your iPhone and use it to find your AirPods:

Follow these steps to set up Find My to access your lost or stolen AirPods:
- Open the Settings app.
- Click your name at the top of the screen.
- Click Browse my options.
- Click Find My iPhone option.
- Activate the (Find my iPhone) and (Find my network) options.
Before you lose your earphones, take a few precautions, like turning on the (notify me if you forget) feature in the Find My app, which notifies your iPhone if you've forgotten any of the Apple devices connected to it—say: AirPods—in an undisclosed location. Follow these steps to enable this feature:
- Open the location app.
- Click on the Devices tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Click on the AirPods option from the list.
- Select (notify me if you're late).
- Turn on the option (Notify me if you're late) by tapping the toggle next to it, then make sure to set exceptions for specific locations, such as late afternoons. B: Your home address so you won't receive notifications when the speaker is home.
- Click Finish.
This feature helps ensure that AirPods aren't left on desks or gym lockers, for example.
How to find lost AirPods:
Apple's Find My app can locate your AirPods and help you find them easily. Follow the steps below to start finding your lost AirPods:
- Open the location app.
- Click on the Devices tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Click the AirPods option in the list and the map will show the location of the AirPods.
If your AirPods are near one of your Apple devices and connected via Bluetooth, you can turn on the (play audio) feature to make it easier to find them. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open the location app.
- Click on the Devices tab.
- Select AirPods from the list.
- Click the “Play Audio” option to play the sound from the speakers, which will gradually increase.
How Find My AirPods works depends on their model. The condition of your charging case can affect how easy it is to track your AirPods. Example: Users cannot find AirPods using the Find My (play audio) function when the earphones are in the charging case. But the AirPods Pro 2 charging case has its own speaker that rattles when you activate playback.
How to activate lost mode:
If Lost Mode is turned on for your AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro, AirPods Pro (2nd generation), or AirPods Max, you can use your phone number or email address to share a specific message, so that it appears to everyone on your iPhone on your AirPods. Follow these steps to enable this feature:
- Open the location app.
- Click the "hardware" tab.
- Select AirPods from the menu.
- Click the "Enable" button below the option (put on it is missing) and follow the instructions that appear on the screen to add your contact information that will appear to people trying to connect to the amplifier.
Since AirPods cannot connect itself to the Internet, Lost Mode will not do anything until AirPods is connected to a new online device.
