Today, Google announced a new update that includes, in addition to the Google Drive cloud storage service, the design of the user interface for its group of cloud products, namely Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. The company says its new theme draws from Google Material Design 3, the design language it launched for Android last year, and includes improved graphics and a new way to display spreadsheets.
The new design of Google Docs and Google Drive services aims to make it easier to find the most important options and improve visibility by adapting design and interaction.
The new design includes several UX improvements, such as b. Simplified user interface in the top bars for documents, spreadsheets, and presentations so users can find frequently used options more quickly. Google has also improved the design of the Comments section in Docs, as well as the background, rulers, and gridlines.
The company has overhauled Google Drive's design to display the most important options directly on files to make them easier to access and save users' time. Users can also select multiple items at once and perform actions for recurring tasks in bulk. The theme also adds new search segments including searches by file type, owner name, and last modified date to find files faster.
Google said the new improvements will be available to all enterprise Google Workspace users, including existing G Suite Basic and Business Service customers, as well as users with personal Google accounts. The new design will be gradually rolled out from March 6, 2023.
