Alphabet removes the most annoying ad formats on YouTube

Alphabet has announced that it will phase out the floating overlay banner that typically appears on YouTube videos on desktop, starting April 6, 2023.

Alphabet said it aims to use the move to focus on other ad formats that drive engagement, and said it doesn't expect the decision to have a significant impact on content creators as ad interactions on their videos shift to other ad formats.

According to the company, the move is part of YouTube's ongoing search for new ways to improve user experiences and focus on ad formats that deliver better results and opportunities for advertisers and creators.

According to the press release, no changes have been made to the other ad formats available on YouTube.

The company's announcement follows a series of new improvements to YouTube, as last month it announced a number of features such as synchronized videos, shared live broadcasts, and higher quality video viewing for subscribers (YouTube Premium).
