Twitter is ending its Shared Tweet feature and rolling out a new feature next week

Twitter has decided to end testing of its CoTweets feature, which allows users to post together, and was one of the last features introduced before Elon Musk bought the company in late October.

Twitter announced the decision in a post on its Help Center, which stated: “For the past few months, we have been testing a new way to Tweet together using Shared Tweets. Unfortunately, the current process is coming to an end.”

The company added that starting Tuesday, January 31, 2023, users will not be able to create new shared tweets. Previously shared Tweets can be viewed for an additional month before being retweeted.

The Shared Tweets feature allows two accounts to co-create a Tweet that will appear on both accounts' profiles at the same time. After initial testing of the idea began in the spring of 2022, it was rolled out to a limited number of users in the United States, South Korea, and Canada last July.

Although the tweet-sharing feature has limited reach, many users expect it to be particularly useful for brands.

Other platforms like Instagram have similar features that allow multiple accounts to post together. Instagram is popular with brands that work with influencers or partners, organizations that work on collaborative initiatives, or organizers who co-host advertising campaigns.

Notably, the end of the feature (CoTweets) coincided with a tweet from Elon Musk stating that the social network had taken steps to focus on allowing authors to add articles as attachments to the tweet.

Musk added that next week Twitter will launch a beta version of the new Superfollows program, which aims to help content creators post directly on the platform and earn money from it.

Musk said the company is also considering revenue sharing from ads placed in responses to creators' tweets. He added, "Create an awesome post and get paid!"

In any case, the end of the tweet sharing function did not come as a surprise, especially since Twitter ended several projects and features under Musk, such as: Ad-Free Articles, Twitter Notes, Toolbox Twitter for Developers, and Twitter Tiles Feature. ) is a new version of the Twitter media card and now blocks third-party apps.
