Smartphones have now become an integral part of our lives, but when you use your phone, you will find that the battery runs out faster and the storage space decreases due to the large number of photos, videos and files, as well as from the phone being dropped or scratched and collided with hard objects. All of this may tempt you to buy a new phone, but there are a few steps you can take to use your current phone for as long as possible, including:
1- Update your phone's operating system regularly:
Many people ignore the notifications that appear on their phones when a new system update is available. People often wait days or weeks for their phone operating systems to update to the latest version. However, this can negatively affect the performance of the phone.
Software updates contain bug fixes from previous updates, as well as features that improve performance and improve application compatibility. Software updates also protect your phone from malware and hackers. Passwords, bank details, photos and contact details are more vulnerable when phones are running older versions of the operating system.
2- Mobile phone battery maintenance:
Perhaps the most common reason why people buy a new phone is that the existing phone's battery capacity has decreased significantly. But a low battery doesn't mean you have to ditch your phone.
The capacity of the smartphone battery begins to decrease after a certain number of charges, so it is better to limit the number of charges by keeping the battery as long as possible by reducing activities that drain the battery: watching videos for a long time, playing video games.
On the other hand, battery consumption can be reduced by lowering the screen brightness and turning off the tracker and bluetooth when not needed as they will continue to run in the background and drain the battery. All of these practices help improve battery life and keep your phone running efficiently for longer.
3- Keep an empty storage space on your phone:
Storage runs out over time, and in this case many may consider buying a phone with a larger storage capacity, but there are other solutions that must be tried before buying a new phone, such as:
- Delete all unused apps.
- Delete unwanted photos, videos and documents.
- If you have an iPhone, sign up for an iCloud plan for more cloud storage.
If you're using an Android phone, your Google account comes with 15GB of free cloud storage, or you can upgrade to the paid Google One service to increase your cloud storage to 100GB.
4- Protect your phone from scratches and bumps:
Protect your phone from scratches and breakage with cases and screen protectors. You can use plastic or glass screen protectors. Plus a case that protects the back of your phone and the rear camera from damage. But be sure to remove the case from time to time to clean your phone.
5- Keep your phone at the right temperature:
Smartphones perform well in temperatures between 32 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit (0 and 35 degrees Celsius). If the phone overheats, the battery may be damaged or the battery may run out of power quickly, which may affect the phone's performance and fail suddenly.
If you must use your phone in very cold or very hot weather, turn off location and Bluetooth, lower the screen brightness, and turn off access to notifications. If you find your phone gets hot while charging, remove the case as it absorbs heat and speeds up the phone's temperature.
