| TikTok is testing a way to reset its "For You" page |
A TikTok spokeswoman announced that the company is working on a new feature that will allow users to "reset" the For You page to change the videos they see.
Jamie Favazza said the new feature, called Refresh, will display videos based on how users use the app after they press a button.
According to the Short Video Service, this feature could be useful for those who regularly post videos to their For You page or for those who are no longer interested in streaming videos.
Testing will begin in the next few days and is currently only available to a few users.
It should be noted that the way TikTok selects the videos that are shown to users on its For You page has been and remains controversial, especially since the company keeps the algorithms it relies on to display videos to recommend them secret.
Last January, a Forbes report revealed that employees at TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance, could manually select clips to increase views.
The company confirmed to the website that some of its employees in the US can use a feature called "heating" to identify parts of the virus.
On the other hand, the company is adding features intended to give users a better view of the algorithms driving the app experience. In December, TikTok announced that users will soon be able to see why a video is showing up.
TikTok said at the time that its system recommends content by rating videos based on a number of factors based on user activity on the app, including signs that users are not interested in certain videos.
In early 2022, the company is also rolling out advanced content filtering settings so that users can choose not to see videos with specific hashtags or keywords.
