Starlink is trying to bring satellite internet to almost every part of the world

Some Starlink users have learned that the company is testing a new service that will allow nearly everyone living on Earth to get online.

Calling the new global roaming service, SpaceX's Starlink says it will charge $200 per month on top of the device's $599 price.

The service uses Starlink (aka space laser) communications between satellites, but there is one important caveat. In a message to users, the company warns that they should expect typical high-speed internet service and low latency, but they will experience short connections and weak or complete outages. However, I promise you, things will improve dramatically over time.

It should be noted that it is unclear how Starlink will fulfill its promise to bring the internet to all parts of the world as the company is still awaiting regulatory approval in various countries and will not be available in other countries. However, PCMag notes that the company offers global roaming services to some users outside of the company's coverage areas, such as Greenland.

While Starlink already allows users to travel within certain limits using internet connection tablets, global roaming services appear to be less restrictive.

For example, the Starlink RV plan, which currently costs $135 per month, allows users to outfit their RV with a Starlink device for Internet access while traveling, but it costs more. The plan is only available in certain parts of the world but does not have the same priority as resident customers and is therefore slower.

Meanwhile, the $25 per month portable add-on, in addition to the $110 per month subscription for resident customers, allows users to take their license plates with them when they travel to their home continent and require them to change their permanent cards. address if they have been away "for a long time". certain time.” They left their homes.

There is also an expensive $5,000 per month Ocean plan for those who want internet at sea.

Similar to the Starlink RV plan, users can suspend global roaming at any time.

Starlink reminds users outside the US that they are responsible for importing the hardware, which means that in addition to paying duties and import taxes, they must also make sure that the hardware complies with local laws and regulations.
