Today, Samsung has started rolling out a new version of One UI, version 5.1, to users of its Galaxy line devices.
The update covered the latest category of Samsung devices that belong to the S20, S21, S22, Z Fold, and Z Flip series, provided that it covers a range of mid-range devices released in 2019 and 2020.
According to the list of changes released by Samsung, the One UI update includes major improvements to the camera, photo gallery, multitasking, weather service, and more. Here is the full list of changes:
Camera and photo gallery
- The ability to adjust skin tones in selfies between natural and warm.
- Access Expert's RAW image processing easily from the camera app's controls menu.
- Find photos of people in the gallery by clicking on their face.
- Updated Remaster function with automatic shadow and highlight removal, including animated GIFs.
- Create Family Sharing Albums that can be shared with up to six people. Users get 5GB of free cloud storage for each person they choose to share photos with. The Gallery app also offers automatic sharing via facial recognition technology.
- More photo information is displayed when you drag a photo into the gallery. The new information includes things like the name of the device that took the photo and the location of the photo.
multitasking
- The ability to minimize or enlarge an application by swiping on the corner of the screen without going through the options menu.
- When using split screen mode, the apps you use most are listed below for easy access.
- Improved multitasking in DeX mode as the separator can now be moved to the center of the screen to resize both windows. It is also possible to drag any window to a corner to automatically occupy a quarter of the screen.
concepts and practices
- The ability to automatically change the wallpaper based on the current user activity, eg choosing one while working and another during training.
- New modes have been added to control Quick Share, touch sensitivity, set ringtones, and change fonts.
the weather
- Updates the Weather app to show weather alerts, a summary of daily weather conditions, and sunrise and sunset times.
- A new graph showing the precipitation forecast for every hour of the day.
- Show weather summary on home screen widget.
Samsung Internet Browser
- If you are browsing the Internet using Samsung Browser on one of your devices, you can continue your browsing session while using that browser on another Samsung device if both devices are connected to the same account.
- Improved browser search to include bookmarks and tab groups.
Other improvements
- The ability to auto-answer calls with Bixby, Samsung's smart assistant, converts the caller's speech into user-readable text directly on the screen (available in English and Korean only).
- A new battery widget that allows users to check the battery status of their devices such as mobile phones, headphones, and smartwatches right on their desktop.
- Use up to three emojis in photos and videos from the AR Emoji Camera app
- The Smart Suggestions tool can now suggest music to play in the Spotify app based on the user's current activity.
- Ability to change the folder where screenshots are saved.
The company's new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, which went on sale in early February this year, is said to come with One UI 5.1 update by default.
