Samsung offers a solution that protects you from unseen cyber threats

On Friday, Samsung announced a new security solution to protect its smartphones and tablets from one of the most dangerous cyber attacks.

With a new security solution called Samsung Message Guard, the South Korean tech giant is trying to protect its device users from advanced cyberattacks that don't require users to click links to hack their devices.

Samsung said in a blog post, “Did you know that simply obtaining an image is enough for hackers to break into your device?” “It is no longer safe to open random links or attachments.” … while cybercriminals continue to discover new methods of attack.

No-click exploits are the newest type of cyberattack and can occur when a user receives an image. A single image can hide malicious code, allowing hackers to steal sensitive data from a device simply because the image has access to it.

"Although there is no evidence that smartphones (Samsung Galaxy) were attacked in this way, Samsung Electronics has tried to anticipate potential threats and implement security precautions such as Samsung Message Guard," the company said.

Samsung has warned that exploits that don't require user interaction have become the latest threat in an era of growing cybercrime targeting user data. One in three consumers worldwide has been hacked and their personal information stolen. Data breaches are becoming more common, with incidents more than tripling between 2013 and 2021.

The company said that its smartphones offer a comprehensive maintenance program via the powerful Samsung Knox platform and that users are protected from attacks involving video and audio formats.

Now Samsung Message Guard goes even further by proactively protecting users' devices and reducing exposure to unseen threats disguised as image attachments.

Samsung said the new security solution is currently working on the Messages app in addition to the Google app. It intends to release a security update to protect those who use third-party messaging apps.

Explaining the mechanisms of its new security solution, Samsung Message Guard, the company said that it isolates all image files that access the device from the rest of the components and prohibits code accessing phone files or interacting with its operating system. The solution analyzes the file piece by piece and processes it in a controlled environment to ensure that the rest of the device is not infected.

Samsung will roll out its new security solution for the latest Galaxy S23 line of phones and will gradually roll it out to the Galaxy line of smartphones and tablets later this year.
