Meta intends to develop a new set of products in-house focused on generative AI, a new set of machine learning technologies that will enable computers to generate text, draw images, and create other media similar to human production.
The move comes as big tech companies and well-funded startups are touting advances in machine learning and embedding AI models in their products.
And CEO (Mark Zuckerberg) said in a Facebook post that the department will bring together multiple descriptive teams. The new team will be formed under the leadership of the current Chief Product Officer (Chris Cox). Zuckerberg added that the team will develop "creative and expressive" tools for use in the identification product.
"We're looking at text experiences like chats in WhatsApp and Messenger, photo experiences like creative filters and ad formats in Instagram, and video and media experiences," Zuckerberg said. “We still have a lot of groundwork to go before we start any future trials, but I'm excited to see all the new things we'll build along the way.”
For example, the advanced language models developed by artificial intelligence technology company OpenAI are integrated into Microsoft Bing chatbot, as well as the popular ChatGPT chatbot. . Google is also developing its own chatbot: Bard.
Just yesterday, Snap announced its GPT Chat-based intelligent chatbot (My AI) integrated with the Snapchat app.
Last week, Meta announced its new large-scale language model called LLaMA. The company said at the time that its models were unique because they were available to researchers and because they were smaller and cheaper to operate than larger models.
But the announcement also shows that Meta, which has done a lot of research in the field of artificial intelligence, will not allow its competitors to overtake it in this crazy race.
