How to fix Instagram has stopped working

If you are having issues with the Instagram app that has stopped working or some functions of the app are broken, it may be related to your account itself, at the time all users were having issues with the Instagram app, or something else for the app to get updates or permissions.

Here are 6 ways to try to fix the Instagram app that has stopped working:

1- Restart the application or the phone:

If you're having trouble with Instagram not working, or if you're having trouble navigating through the app's content easily, the first thing you can try is restarting the app or restarting the phone itself.

Close and restart the Instagram app. If the problem persists, turn the phone off and on again, then try to open and use the Instagram app.

2- Check if Instagram itself is closed:

If restarting the app or the phone doesn't solve the problem, check if Instagram itself is down by typing a question (Is Instagram down) in a search engine and you'll see search results saying that the associated Instagram failed at the time or not. You can also use the DownDetector website to check if the app has crashed.

3- Try to log into your account on another device:

Another way to check if your Instagram issues are caused by your account, your phone, or the Instagram app itself is to log into your account using a different device.

If you are facing the same problem, then Instagram itself is probably down but if you are able to log into your account on a different device, then the problem is with your device.

4- Make sure the Instagram app is updated:

New app updates include new features and fix minor issues that users may have encountered with older versions. So if you are having trouble using the Instagram app, make sure you update it to the latest version.

If you are an iPhone user, you can enable automatic app updates by following these steps:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Click on the (iTunes and App Store) option and select the (Application Updates) option that appears in the (Automatic Downloads) section.

If you are an Android user, you can follow the steps below to enable the auto-update feature for the app:

  • Go to the Google Play app on your phone.
  • Click on your account picture in the upper right corner where you will see a list of options.
  • Click on the (Settings) option.
  • Click on the “Automatically update apps” option and a popup will appear asking you for update settings.
  • Select the option (Automatically update apps over Wi-Fi only), which allows you to update apps only when connected to Wi-Fi.

5- Make sure the permissions are enabled:

Like many other apps, the Instagram app asks for a number of permissions to use different services and resources on your phone. If you do not grant it these permissions, it may not work properly. So, follow these steps to check if the Instagram app permission is enabled on your phone:

If you have an Android phone, go to the Settings app and do the following:

  1. Click on the (Apps and Notifications) option.
  2. Go to the list of apps and tap on Instagram.
  3. Click on the Permissions option
  4. Click Permissions and select Allow only when using the app. Then use the back arrow that appears at the top of the screen to go back to the previous page and move to the next permission to activate it.

If you are an iPhone user, go to the Settings app and do the following:

  • Scroll down the list of apps and tap on the Instagram option.
  • Enable any permissions that appear on the screen, ex: Microphone, Camera, Contacts, and Photos.

6- Delete photos and videos on the phone:

If you are running out of storage space on your phone, you may face issues when using the Instagram app and the app may crash or stop working frequently.

Deleting unnecessary photos, videos, or apps can free up storage space on your phone, and ensure apps work better.
