It is very common for some apps to stop working on Samsung Galaxy phones and there are various reasons; For example: the app has not been updated or you have not given the app the necessary permissions, etc. If you are having issues with certain apps that no longer work on your phone, try the following to fix the issue:
1- Restart the phone in safe mode:
Restarting your phone is often the easiest and most effective way to fix an app that has stopped working. Try to restart your phone in safe mode. This will temporarily disable the apps you have installed on your phone and only allow the necessary ones to help you better assess the cause of the problem.
To enter safe mode in Samsung Galaxy phone, hold down the Power button to bring up the power off menu, then long press the Power off button that appears in the menu and then without error tap the Mode button.
If everything works in safe mode, then the error is not with your phone but with a new app on your phone. If you downloaded an app from a source other than Google Play or the Galaxy Store, delete it and see if that solves the problem.
2- Remove restrictions from applications:
If you are using a Samsung Galaxy phone with One UI 5 or higher and you are facing an issue where some apps stop working, the update might be one of the reasons for the problem.
Samsung's new One UI 5 update focuses on improving the battery life of Samsung Galaxy phones. As part of the battery life improvement package, the One UI 5 update prevents some apps from running in the background, but prevents some apps from starting or stopping working altogether.
You can restrict some background running apps but you frequently use and don't want to restrict them due to new UI update. To do this, follow these steps:
- Go to the Settings app on your phone.
- Click on the "Applications" option.
- Find the name of the app whose battery optimization settings you want to change, and tap it when you find it.
- On the app page, tap on the Battery option.
- Change the option Enabled automatically (optimization) to (Unlimited).
This change may reduce your phone's battery life, but if the app is useful and you use it frequently, remove the limit.
3- Clear cache:
Cached data can sometimes affect app performance and clearing cache can help fix the problem. To do this, follow these steps:
- Go to (Settings) Settings, then Applications (Apps) and select Disabled applications.
- On the App info page, tap on the Storage option.
- Then click on the (Clear Cache) option, and then click on the (Clear Data) option.
- Click the OK button.
- Re-open the app and make sure it works.
4- Update or reinstall the broken application:
Please follow the steps below to try to update all the apps on your phone to the latest version from the Google Play Store:
- Open the Play Store app and tap your profile picture.
- Tap Manage apps and devices, then tap Update all.
If you have a problem with your Samsung apps, you can update them through the Galaxy Store as some pre-installed Samsung apps are not showing up in Google Play. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open the Galaxy Store app and tap Menu.
- Click on the update option and select Update all.
If the update didn't work and some apps keep crashing, you can delete the apps from your phone and reinstall them.
5- Make sure the app has all the permissions:
The app you are trying to open may require certain permissions that you may have previously denied in order for it to function properly, ie for example: location, camera, microphone, etc. The app will not work properly without the required permissions.
To grant all permissions to an app, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings, then choose Apps and select the broken application.
- On the app's info page, click Permissions, and allow all the permissions the app needs.
