Here's how to use your Samsung Galaxy phone as a second screen for your computer

The iPad can be used as a second screen for a Mac computer thanks to the Sidecar feature, which has been available since the release of iPadOS 13, but Apple is not the only company offering this feature. With the release of One UI 3.1, Samsung added a similar feature called (Smart View) that allows you to use some of the latest Samsung Galaxy tablets and Samsung Galaxy phones as a second screen for your Windows PC.

Below we explain how to use your Samsung Galaxy phone as a second screen for your Windows PC using Samsung Smart View:

1- Activate the Smart View feature on your Samsung Galaxy phone:

To enable Smart View, swipe down with two fingers from the phone's home screen to reveal the quick settings panel, then tap the Smart View icon. If you don't see the Smart View icon on the first quick settings page, swipe left to find it.

Then, on the displayed details page, click the Next button and then click the Next button to grant permission to access the folder and location.

  • If you click on the word Smart View, the Smart View developer options menu will appear on a new page.

  • Select the (Enable Second Screen) option, which is what you need to do every time you want to use your Galaxy phone as a second screen.
  • Then click on the words "Start Second Screen" to open the second screen setup options.
  • On the second screen page, go to the Connected mode section and check the option (Smooth video playback) instead of the automatically selected option (Graphic / Gaming (faster response)).

Please stay on this page while proceeding to the next step as your computer will not be able to recognize your Samsung Galaxy phone if the second screen page is not open.

3- Connect your Windows computer:

  • After making sure that your Windows PC and Samsung Galaxy phone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, press Windows key + K to connect to the secondary screen. This will open a popup with your available displays. When the name appears in the list, select your Samsung Galaxy.
  • Then the computer screen will appear on your Galaxy phone. To expand the appearance of the phone screen, click on the option (Change display mode) or click on the (Windows + P) button and select (Extend) the extension.

After using your phone as a second monitor for your computer, click on the Disconnect option that appears on the top toolbar of your computer or Samsung Galaxy phone. You can also click the (Windows + K) button to sign out.
