Google has announced a number of new features for its cloud services, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides along with the Google Drive cloud storage app. The update also revamps the user interface for the aforementioned services and improves the design to bring its apps closer to the Material Design system launched for Android last year.
The new look gives the toolbar a darker color to make it easier to distinguish from the rest of the page, an improved design for the comments section, and new icons.
The update also adds the possibility of merging services provided by other companies with the Google Docs service through the smart chip service, which is the service that the company announced last October. According to Google, the feature now supports services like Atlassian and Asana for project and task management, Figma and Miro for web and mobile app modeling, Tableau for data analysis, and ZenDesk for customer relationship management.
Support for the above services allows users of Google Docs to insert embedded content from these services directly into their text files or presentations, making it easier to view and work with the information collaboratively with other users.
In addition, Google has released a number of its own smart chips such as stopwatches, emoji polls, and Google Calendar that allow users to create and send invitations without leaving any documents.
It should be noted that Google's announcement comes amid other updates that the company introduced today for a variety of its services, including YouTube support for syncing music videos, launching in-app podcasts (YouTube Music), and an update to the Google Smart TV platform, Google TV.
