Google offers memory and battery saving features for Chrome

Google launched the latest version of its web browser software, Chrome, and in December announced two features aimed at making the browser use less system memory and offload desktops more efficiently.

While Chrome has dominated the web browser market for years, accounting for 65.4% of all platforms as of January last year, particularly on desktops, its users have complained that it's the worst at draining system memory and battery performance.

According to Google, the two new features allow the browser to use 30% less memory with the goal of keeping tabs running smoothly and increasing battery life when the battery is low.

Memory saver and power saver modes are now available in Chrome version 110 for Windows, macOS, and Chrome OS.

Regarding the memory saving mechanism, Google previously explained that if a user opens a group of tabs in Chrome and wants to come back later, the memory protector saves memory by freeing up memory in the open tabs. Currently not in use to allow the website to enjoy active web browsing with the best experience.

Regarding the Power Saving mode, the company says Energy Saver saves power by reducing background activities and visual effects when the battery is empty, there are no chargers nearby, and the battery level drops to 20%. Websites with animations and videos have been launched.

According to Google, users can control Chrome's performance tweaks, where they can disable Memory Saver and Energy Saver modes if they wish, or choose which websites are best excluded from the Memory Saver feature.

The two new settings can be found in Chrome's three-dot menu, tap Settings, and then tap Performance.

At this point, users can download the latest version of the Chrome desktop browser from the official website.
