Dell joins the big tech companies cutting thousands of jobs

The American company (Dell) DELL has joined the ranks of technology companies that have recently laid off several employees. The company announced the layoffs of 6,650 employees, or roughly 5% of the company's workforce.

In a note he sent to the employees, the company's executive vice president (Jeff Clark) said that the measures his company had taken over the past few months to avoid reaching that moment were no longer sufficient, adding that the situation in the market indicated an uncertain future. This prompted the company to take the measures he described in order to reduce costs and avoid further losses.

Dell will adjust its operations, taking steps such as merging some divisions of the company and taking steps to reduce operating costs in others.

The sharp decline in the desktop computer market has been cited as one of the main reasons for the company's failure. According to IDC, a market research firm, PC demand will drop by 28% in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year.

Last month, Gartner released a research report showing that the global PC market sold 65.3 million units in the second quarter of last year, which is the largest decline since Gartner began collecting data in the middle of the year. -1990 sec.

The decline in the PC market is one of the reasons Dell lays off workers. While this comes amid the recent wave of massive layoffs by major tech companies and analysts due to rising inflation in global markets and fears that the market is heading for a potential post-COVID-19 recession, tech companies have significantly increased their hiring rate.

The rate of layoffs at large international companies ranges from 5% to 7%. Amazon announced earlier this year that it would lay off 18,000 employees, followed by Microsoft with 10,000 layoffs, Alphabet with 12,000, Twitter with 7,500 and PayPal with 2,000.
