YouTube sets the schedule and terms of revenue sharing with the shorts


The video-sharing service YouTube announced on Monday that it will start sharing ad revenue with creators of short videos starting February 1.

In response to the upcoming changes, YouTube has started rolling out new terms of service for creators who want to participate in the YouTube Partner Program. Existing creators have until July 10th to agree to new terms to stay in the program.

A major change to the YouTube Partner Program will allow YouTubers to earn money from ads shown between videos in their short movie streams.

YouTube said it expected Shorts fund recipients to make money through a new revenue-sharing model, though it would replace existing funds.

As previously announced, video creators can apply to join the affiliate program if they meet the new short video limits: 1,000 subscribers and 10 million short video views in 90 days. Under the new terms, a content creator must accept certain units in order to earn money.

The first module is called the watch page monetization module, which allows creators to earn money from ads shown on long-form videos and premium services (YouTube Premium).

The second module, called the Short Monetization Module, allows creators to earn money from ads that appear between short videos on the Shorts and YouTube Premium channel.

The third and final module is called the Business Products Addendum and is dedicated to features such as channel and super memberships.

YouTube recommends that creators accept all add-ons to "realize the platform's full monetization potential."

Starting next month, creators who create short videos and accept the Short Film Monetization module will be eligible to share short ad revenue based on the number of times their short videos are viewed.

A portion of the total revenue is distributed to creator groups based on the number of views and background audio usage of all short videos.

If the creator uploads a short clip without audio, all revenue based on the show will be credited to the creator, but if the creator uploads a short clip with background audio, the revenue based on the show will depend on the number of views between the creators and the music. The route used is divided between the partners.

Please note that non-original short videos are not eligible for revenue sharing and contain unedited clips from movies or TV shows, re-uploads of content from other creators to YouTube or another platform, or compilations with no original content added.

With these upcoming changes, YouTube's short video service will become TikTok's biggest competitor, especially when short film creators earn more from TikTok, which will encourage them to create more original content on Youtube.

This, combined with the fact that no short video platform has yet figured out how to share ad revenue, gives YouTube an edge over the competition.
