YouTube is launching a new program to help students get college credit

YouTube announced Tuesday that it has partnered with Arizona State University and educational content provider, Crash Course, to launch a new program to help students earn academic credit.

The new program, called College Foundations, aims to provide a cheap and affordable way to earn credit, the company said in a blog post.

Students can now enroll in courses from March 7, 2023 and receive credit upon completion.

The program does not require an application or a minimum GPA for registration. They include first-year general college courses such as: Introduction to Human Communication, Rhetoric and Composition, Real World College Mathematics, and American History (1865).

The program is expected to offer 12 courses beginning in January 2025, giving students the opportunity to earn credits during their first year.

Students who choose to enroll and begin classes must pay $25 and then $400 per course credit. Students who register before March 7 will receive a $50 discount.

The program allows students to take classes as needed to keep them satisfied with the grades they have achieved. These credits may be used at educational institutions that accept ASU credits.

Specifically, the College Foundations program is an extension of the existing Study Hall partnership between ASU, YouTube, and Crash Course, an education channel with more than 14 million subscribers.

"Developed and taught by the same faculty that conducts research and educates students on the ASU campus, it combines the academic excellence of ASU with the compelling narrative of Crash Core into one," YouTube said in a blog post. YouTube Viral Platform.

First, students get a free preview, enroll in the courses of their choice, and start earning credits. After joining the class, students can email the success coach to request help with the homework. Students can do their homework if required, but most courses are billed according to weekly deadlines. Some professors set up electives in their offices if they want additional support.

It should be noted that YouTube has been a major source of educational content for years and is increasing its presence in education by providing users with a direct path to formal education by allowing students to earn credits.

YouTube's announcement follows December's announcement of Lessons, a feature designed to provide a structured learning experience on YouTube in India. It allows teachers to post and organize their videos, and to provide text readings and questions directly in the app.
