WhatsApp allows its users to bypass blocking and monitoring |
Launched in 2023, the instant messaging service WhatsApp has introduced a long-awaited feature that allows users to bypass blocking and monitoring.
WhatsApp, which belongs to Meta, wrote on its blog: “Happy New Year to everyone who uses WhatsApp! We know that as we mark the beginning of 2023 with private messages or calls, there are still many people who are unavailable due to their loved ones due to the internet outage.”
To help these vulnerable users, the company today announced proxy support for WhatsApp users around the world, with the aim of allowing users to access WhatsApp in the event of a blocked or offline connection.
The company explained that the decision to connect through a proxy allows users to connect to WhatsApp through servers set up by volunteers and organizations around the world to help users communicate freely.
WhatsApp invites contributions from people who can help others connect by creating connection agents.
Emphasizing user privacy, the company said that connecting through a proxy maintains the high level of privacy and security provided by the service. “Your personal information is protected by end-to-end encryption, ensuring that it exists only between you and the person you are communicating with and is not visible to everyone in between because server proxy, WhatsApp and META do not see it.”
"We hope that these internet shutdowns will not happen in 2023," the company said. Unrest like the one we have been witnessing in Iran for months is denying people their rights and depriving them of emergency aid. "
"Even as these lockdowns continue, we hope this solution will help people wherever they need secure and reliable connectivity," she added.
This, along with new security options, is now available in the Settings menu for anyone using the latest version of the WhatsApp app.
