The Federal Aviation Administration suffered a computer glitch Wednesday morning that disrupted flights across the United States.
A source close to the situation told NBC News that all flights in the United States have been grounded after the crash.
The FAA said in a statement on its website that the Notham system was "down" on Wednesday morning; It was a letter containing basic information about airlines.
The FAA said, "Technicians are currently working to restore the system and there are no estimates of service recovery at this time."
As of 7 a.m. Wednesday, more than 1,160 flights to and from the United States had been delayed, including about 100 that were cancelled, according to online flight-tracking service FlightAware.
The FAA said in a statement: “This incident affected the National Navigation System. The FAA is working to restore the system and we are currently conducting final inspections.”
United Airlines said in a tweet that it is temporarily delaying all domestic flights and will provide an update when it has more information from the FAA about the situation.
