Twitter plans to launch an ad-free subscription that costs more than Blue |
Twitter CEO Elon Musk said Sunday that the company will soon launch a new, more affordable paid subscription service called Twitter Blue, which will be ad-free in addition to its existing subscription offering.
Musk tweeted: “Twitter advertising is very popular and very large. We will be taking steps to address both of these issues over the next few weeks. More expensive subscriptions.”
Musk announced in December that Twitter Blue, a paid service, will display half of the ads served to regular Twitter users, and that by 2023 the company will offer an even higher level of ad-free services.
Twitter relaunched its paid service in mid-December with a new solution for Internet users and Apple's operating system (iOS), which was launched in November but was discontinued due to misuse. in service.
Subscribe to Twitter Blue for $8 per month on the web, $11 per month on iOS, or $11 per month with Google's Android subscription.
Notably, Twitter generates nearly 90% of its revenue from digital ad sales, but that has changed since Musk bought it for $44 billion in late October, seeing its ad campaigns deteriorate.
The advertisers pulled out largely due to concerns about Musk's moderation methods and a fear that their ads would appear alongside controversial content. In November, Musk said Twitter suffered a "significant drop in revenue" and a loss of $4 million, which he attributes to human rights groups pressuring brands to suspend advertising on Twitter.
Amid Musk's efforts to attract brands to the social media platform, The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that Twitter will offer incentives based on advertiser spending, including $250,000 in free ad space for advertisers who support spending the same amount of ads on Platform. . .
In early January, Twitter announced that it would expand the types of political ads allowed on its platform in the coming weeks, an apparent reversal of the 2019 global ban on such ads.
