Google DeepMind plans to launch a ChatGPT competitor

DeepMind, a subsidiary of the US technology giant Google, has announced that it will soon launch a product to compete with the popular chatbot (ChatGPT), promising that its product will be more secure.

DeepMind has been a leader in AI research for nearly a decade and was acquired by Google nine years ago.

Demis Hassabis, CEO of DeepMind (Deep Thinking), revealed to Time Magazine that the company plans to launch its own chatbot (Sparrow), which will be released in 2023 in a "private beta". The market is coming.

The company launched Sparrow in a research paper last year, describing it as a "helpful chatbot that reduces the risk of dangerous and inappropriate responses."

Since DeepMind is a subsidiary of Google, its chatbot appears to be the tech giant's answer to ChatGPT.

According to Hassabis, the delay in launching Sparrow was due to DeepMind making sure it had key features that ChatGPT lacked. Hassabis also stressed the need to exercise caution in such areas.

According to the DeepMind article, it appears that Sparrow will initially respond in a more reserved and cautious manner than ChatGPT, which has recently become popular for its amazing ability to write essays, poetry, and code. However, there are also concerns about providing discriminatory responses and making it easier to write malware and hack websites.

And DeepMind made sure to set rules that restricted its chatbot's behavior, including setting it up to refuse to answer some questionable questions.

The company said developing best practices for its smart assistant "requires input from experts in multiple disciplines, such as policy makers, sociologists, and ethicists, as well as participatory input from diverse users and affected groups."

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, also talked about the difficulty of deploying AI chatbots without collateral damage.

Altman confirmed on Twitter that “significant issues will emerge with OpenAI technology over time” and promised to do his best, but that does not mean that all problems will be fixed.
