BMW shows a concept car that changes colors talks and has its own mood |
As part of its participation in the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2023), BMW presented two "cars of the future" models with their own emotions and the ability to interact with the feelings of their owners.
The German auto giant (BMW) called the two similar-looking cars (iVision D). D is an acronym for Digital Emotional Experience. One of the two cars has the ability to change color in a matter of seconds.
BMW showed a "color-changing" model at CES 2022, but the changes were limited to different shades of grey. But this year's car stands out for its rich color change options. Different parts of the body can be painted in different colors at the same time, and even the wheels can change color.
The company said another model (i Vision Dee) is set to feature new ideas for "user interface," or how the driver and passengers interact with the car.
Here, the "user interface" is not limited to the interior of the car, it can even extend to the exterior of the car and the front of the car, the area around the headlights and the front of the car, which is originally a billboard, similar to facial expressions, representing different shapes and colors . According to BMW, the car can display different emotions or reactions, such as approval, joy, or surprise.
The car also has a windshield similar to many modern cars, but (i Vision Dee) differs from (BMW) in that the glass extends over the entire windshield. The company plans to add this feature to some of its cars in particular starting in 2025.
As with other head-up displays, the image projected onto the windshield (which may contain navigation cues or multiple secondary images) is usually transparent.
The new model is also capable of displaying images on the side windows. For example, drivers can choose a digital avatar to display on the side window as part of their welcome when they approach the vehicle.
The type of content shown on the windshield and side windows, from basic driving information to cartoon characters, is controlled via sliders displayed on the dashboard.
Instead of physical controls or a permanent touchscreen, sliders, which BMW calls Mixed Reality Sliders, appear on the dashboard as sensors on the surface detect fingers sliding across the bars in response.
With this command, the user can choose from five different layers of digital content in the viewport. Levels range from basic driving information, to augmented reality information about things outside, to fully virtual worlds that keep everything outside. Let's say the full virtual experience is limited to handling the car while it's in place.
It should be noted that the i Vision Dee is an electric sedan and not an SUV like that (BMW) that was launched last year, where it was said that the sedan is "the heart of the (BMW) brand." said the automaker in its announcement.
