Telegram allows the creation of accounts with unknown numbers and advertises many features
On Tuesday, the instant messaging service Telegram announced a new update that includes the ability to have a Telegram account without a SIM card, among many other features.
Telegram explained in a post on its blog that, in addition to the feature of hiding phone numbers from strangers that it allows users, they can now obtain a SIM-free Telegram account, and log in with anonymous numbers using Blockchain technology, available on the Fragment platform.
Since 2013, Telegram has introduced a self-destructing message feature that allows users to delete all messages they have sent or received from either party without a trace. You can also set an auto-delete timer to get rid of private individual chats after a specified time.
Today, users can set a global auto-delete timer that will automatically delete messages in all new conversations. The timer does not affect conversations that already exist, but existing conversations can be captured by expanding Auto-delete settings in a new menu in Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Auto-Delete Messages.
The timer is automatically applied to all new conversations with the user, regardless of who initiated them first, and to any new groups created by the user. The service also makes it easy to set up automatic deletions in small private groups, and members with permission to change the group name and photo can now run a timer.
In its latest update, launched on November 7, Telegram has given group admins the ability to organize discussions into topics, a feature that combines traditional Internet forums with the latest messaging technology. Today, according to Telegram, these features are even better and are now available for groups of 100 or more members.
In the new update, topic groups are displayed in a two-column format for easy access to other conversations, and you can instantly jump to the most recent topic in your conversations list by clicking the new button in the overview.
The group now has a main topic named General that contains the group's service alerts and alert history from the previous topic. The topic is available to all group members so they can find the oldest posts. Administrators can rename or hide topics from the main menu.
To see all recent messages at once, switch to a per-message view. To make it easier to navigate the thread list, the message counters for previously visited threads are dark in color, while those for unopened messages are light in color.
For those who like structure and order, groups can now have up to 5 pinned threads, and each thread supports unlimited posts. Group owners can enable topics in group settings and control who can create and manage topics in the Permissions section.
To combat spam, Telegram said group admins with more than 200 people can now use the proactive capabilities of Telegram's algorithm to unlock a new "violence mode" to automatically filter out spam. Group admins can immediately report any incorrect filtering in the Recent tab.
In another feature, Telegram said its users with public usernames can create QR codes to communicate with those around them.
After making the feature available to Android users, Apple's Telegram for iOS users can now search for emojis using keywords in multiple languages.
Android users can download the latest version of the Telegram app from the Google Play Store, iOS users from the App Store and other devices from the service's website.
