Report: Apple plans to bring the Apple TV app to Android |
Apple plans to offer an app for its TV service on Android smartphones, according to Twitter user ShrimpApplePro who is known for his in-depth leaks on Apple products.
According to the ShrimpApplePro account, Apple is currently internally testing the app and plans to launch it soon, but it hasn't specified when the app will be launched.
The Apple TV app makes it easy for users of Google's smartphones to access the Apple TV+ streaming service without having to rely on the service's website at tv.apple.com.
On Android, the app is currently limited to Android TV-powered streaming devices, including: Chromecast running on Google TV.
Other non-Apple devices running the Apple TV app include PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, Roku devices, Amazon Fire TV, Roku TV, as well as select Apple TV devices such as: Samsung and LG, Sony, and Vizio.
The app can be used to stream Apple TV Plus or to purchase or rent TV shows and movies from the iTunes Store.
The availability of the Apple TV app on Android smartphones has helped increase viewership of Apple TV Plus and drive revenue from Apple services.
