Musk: I will resign as CEO of Twitter as soon as a replacement is found |
Current Twitter owner and CEO Elon Musk announced on Wednesday that he will step down once a suitable replacement is found, after a majority of users voted in favor of his resignation.
On Monday, Musk released a poll that now asked his 122.4 million followers, “Should I step down as president of the company? I will stand by the results of this poll.”
More than 17.5 million users took part in the vote and 57.6% supported his resignation.
After an uproar over whether Musk would actually honor the vote, Musk said he would step down as CEO once a replacement was found.
The billionaire posted a tweet saying, "I will resign as CEO as soon as I find a stupid person working as CEO!" "After that, my role will be limited to managing the software and server teams," Musk added. .
Since the social media platform is mostly software and servers, Musk will clearly still be in direct control of the business, even if he doesn't explicitly assume the CEO role, especially after the massive layoffs.
It is believed that Musk chose to do what he is known for at other companies such as electric car maker Tesla and space rocket maker SpaceX because he has effective control over most of the companies' products.
Now that Musk is the de facto owner of Twitter, it looks like he'll continue to do so. But today's announcement may disappoint anyone hoping to step down as CEO to end their Twitter frenzy.
