Apple releases iOS 16.2 for iPhone with iCloud encryption and more |
Today, Apple began rolling out the latest iOS 16.2, which brings many new and improved features to iPhone users.
iPhone 14 Pro users will benefit from improved settings for the Always On Display feature, which allows users to turn off wallpapers and notifications when distracted.
Other new features include end-to-end encryption for iCloud, karaoke mode for Apple Music Sing, and more.
In iOS 16.2, an end-to-end encryption feature in iCloud called Advanced Data Protection protects most iCloud data with end-to-end encryption.
Protection now includes an increase from 14 to 23 “categories of data” including: Device backup, Message backup, iCloud Drive, Notes, Photos, Reminders, Safari bookmarks, Siri Shortcuts, etc. Voice Memos and Wallet Passports .
For iPad tablets, iPadOS 16.2 adds external display support in the Stage Manager feature and includes a new FreeFrom app that allows users to take notes and share files on the board.
The whiteboard-like app also works with FaceTime, making it ideal for small teams that want to communicate and track notes and changes in meetings.
Finally, iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 include an improved build for the HomeKit smart home platform, which Apple had intended to launch with iOS 16.
The architectural improvements should improve performance and come after Apple started supporting the Matter smart home standard in iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1.
The update can be downloaded by going to Settings, then the General option, then Software Update, then Download and Install and follow the instructions on the screen.
