Apple is changing the name of its operating system for mixed reality glasses as the announcement nears
A new report from Bloomberg News claims that Apple has changed the name of the operating system for its mixed reality glasses to xrOS, which indicates that the glasses will be available soon.
Previous rumors indicated that the US tech giant was developing an operating system for virtual reality and augmented reality glasses called RealityOS.
According to Bloomberg News' Mark Gurman, Apple is expected to release virtual and augmented reality glasses next year.
For years, there have been rumors that Apple, best known for making the iPhone, among many other consumer products, wanted to enter the virtual reality and augmented reality market and had to develop a proprietary operating system for the purpose.
Given the new name of the operating system, mentioning the two letters XR is an abbreviation for the words Extended Reality, which means augmented reality, which includes virtual reality and augmented reality.
It should be noted that talk about virtual reality glasses and an augmented reality operating system began in 2017, and the glasses will have their own screens and processors in addition to a new operating system. Then rOS was called.
It is said that Apple is developing and developing at least three glasses that support virtual reality and augmented reality technology, code: N301, N421 and N602.
According to a trademark application discovered at the end of August, the N301 glasses will be called Apple Reality Pro. Apple glasses are expected to support mixed reality technology similar to Mita's Quest Pro and could be launched in 2023.
It is believed that the N421 is a second-generation version that will offer consumers two different styles of glasses, one of which will offer an upgrade over the first-generation N301, while the other will be a cheaper alternative.
It is rumored that the N602 glasses will not be glasses for the head, but will be more like prescription glasses and traditional sunglasses, but will only support augmented reality.
The company is currently expected to be in an "advanced" stage of development, with upcoming Apple Glasses that could include 4K OLED displays, 15 cameras spread across the outside, and possibly support for eye and gesture tracking. The first generation of Apple glasses could be very expensive, as much as $3,000.
