WhatsApp is testing the ability to use one account on multiple phones |
The instant messaging service WhatsApp has begun testing the ability to use one account on multiple smartphones via the Companion Mode feature.
The day before yesterday, WhatsApp began testing the ability to link your mobile account to a tablet, which was previously limited to linking accounts to the desktop version of the service.
According to WABetaInfo, which oversees WhatsApp beta features, the service has also started supporting the ability to link accounts to other smartphones for users of the Android WhatsApp beta #2.2.2.24..18.
The site posted a screenshot of the new feature as it appears on the login screen, and users who download the app to their phone can link it to a second phone instead of entering a phone number as they did when signing up. The first time via the "Link Device" option.
After you link your WhatsApp account to the new smartphone, your chat history will be synced on both devices. Since these features are still experimental, some of them may not work as expected, according to WABetaInfo, which mentions the ability to view live sites and manage group message lists and stickers.
The website states that up to 4 devices can be linked at the same time, which means 4 smartphones can be linked to one WhatsApp account. In addition, personal messages and calls on other smartphones linked to the original account remain encrypted.
It is worth noting that many WhatsApp beta subscribers who download the latest version of the app can use the companion mode, which allows linking accounts with multiple devices. The feature is expected to roll out to more users in the coming weeks.
This feature and feature is still in beta form and there is no information on when it will be rolled out to all users, but those who want to try it can sign up for WhatsApp on the Android beta program and the latest beta version of the app is also available here under Manually Download and Install.
