Twitter no longer gives blue verification badges |
Users reported that despite subscribing to the Twitter Blue service, the blue verification badge had disappeared from their accounts, contrary to the platform's commitment to subscribers to the service.
So far, the Twitter Blue News page says subscribers will get a blue verification badge, along with early access to new features like editing tweets.
Available to all subscribers of the service, which costs $7.99 per month, is believed to have been misused by users to impersonate brands and celebrities.
Twitter's new owner, billionaire Elon Musk, announced the service two days ago for users of Apple's iPhone iOS platform apps. Today, Friday, the app no longer offers the option to subscribe to the Twitter Blue service.
The service's rapid shutdown is meant to signal, at least for now, that Musk's plans to generate new revenue from users are not going as planned.
The paid subscription services have led to a large number of fraudsters creating fraudulent accounts on Twitter.
Some users who paid for the service said that the blue check mark disappeared from their account.
