| Signal joins the ranks and supports encrypted stories |
The developers of the encrypted messaging app Signal announced Monday that they will be rolling out Stories to all users across Android and iOS platforms.
The official launch comes after a few weeks of testing the feature with a select group of users, and Signal plans to roll out Stories to users of its desktop app.
Similar to Stories on other platforms, Signal Stories allows users to create and share photos, videos, and texts and then disappear 24 hours after posting. Signal ensures that Stories are fully encrypted with end-to-end encryption like nothing else in your app.
Signal allows its users to choose who can view stories, with the ability to manually hide stories from specific people. You can also share stories with a small group of users by creating custom stories or sharing them with existing group chats.
Similar to reading a message or getting a viewing cue in conversations, users can tell others they've seen a story, and they can also see who's seen their story. This feature can be enabled or disabled in the settings menu.
According to Signal, Stories feature is one of the most requested features by users, so I decided to add it to the app. "Stories emerged to realize these and other jobs in the broader field of communication, and many of us used it as a way to connect with each other," she said in a blog post. She added, "That's why it occupies a natural position in every messaging app, including: Signal. People use it, and want it, so we've created a way to create Stories privately. And without getting bogged down in a sea of ads."
Since Signal understands that some users won't accept the new Stories feature, it gives them the option to disable it in Settings so they don't post or view Stories in the app.
It should be noted that the Signal service was one of the last services that supported the Stories feature, and after the Snapchat application contributed to its popularity, other applications began to support it in recent years to enhance their applications and expand services with Instagram, then Facebook, then WhatsApp, then Tik Tok, Twitter, and even the communication network Social for Business: LinkedIn.
Signal for Android can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and the iOS version can be downloaded from the App Store. Desktop operating system applications can also be downloaded from the official website of the service.
