Turning the front knob clockwise firmly locks the adjustment mechanism on the lid and lid (it will not come loose!). Then open the cover by turning the switch in the opposite direction. In addition to being extremely easy to use, this device is extremely versatile: it removes any cap or lid from 1" to 3.5" in diameter and will work with threaded pots/lids that have both smooth and grooved sides.
