Musk retracts the new authentication phrase after only one day |
Elon Musk tweeted on Wednesday that he has removed the "official" hashtag that briefly appeared under the names of some of his well-known Twitter accounts today.
The new owner of Twitter tweeted: "Please know Twitter is going to be doing a lot of stupid things over the next few months. We'll keep what works and change what doesn't."
Just a day after the social media company's chief product officer announced the word "official," the masker deleted the word, prompting confusion about the difference between Twitter's current blue check mark and "official." Confused, he explained that the accounts he's checking are official. .
The company's CEO, Esther Crawford, confirmed yesterday that the new Twitter Blue subscription service will allow subscribers to receive a blue verification badge for their accounts, but will not actually verify a user's identity.
Anonymity may raise concerns about appearing as a public figure. In fact, these concerns prompted Twitter to delay the launch of the new version of Twitter Blue until after Tuesday's US midterm elections.
This news comes after a new report from Platformer that Elon Musk was investigating the possibility of charging via the social media platform.
Platfurer said it was not clear how serious the plan was, adding that it "does not appear imminent" when the move goes ahead. At the same time, it also shows that Musk, currently the richest man in the world, is looking for all possible ways to generate new revenue for the platform he spent $44 billion to acquire.
Musk and his advisors also discussed different ways to make money from Twitter. Besides the blue check mark, they also talked about the fee for private messages users can send to high-profile users and the ability to charge for certain videos. They also discussed the possibility of restarting the Vine short video app.
Please note that Twitter will do lots of dumb things in coming months.
