Musk: Apple threatened to ban Twitter from the App Store |
Elon Musk said on Monday that Apple is threatening to ban Twitter from its App Store for unknown reasons.
The statement came after Musk tweeted that Apple had "basically stopped advertising on the platform" and asked if the company "hates free speech in America."
After Musk released a survey stating that "Apple should disclose any censorship measures it takes that affect its customers," Musk released another tweet, saying, "Apple also threatens to pull Twitter out of the App Store ban, but didn't tell us. Why.
The escalating tension between Apple and Twitter appears to have come when Musk criticized Apple for charging in-app purchases from the App Store, calling it a "horrible 30% tax."
After Musk unblocked the account of former US President Donald Trump, Apple App Store chief Phil Schiller deleted his account from Twitter.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said in an interview with CBS News on November 15, “They said they will continue to review content policies and floated the idea of pardoning all suspended accounts on the platform.
And if Musk's tweet about banning Twitter from the App Store is true, that means a temporary refusal to accept Twitter app updates and possibly a more serious threat to remove Twitter from the App Store altogether.
In response, the billionaire Musk warned on Friday that he would make a "phone backup" for iPhones and Android phones if Apple and Google decided to remove the Twitter app from their respective app stores.
Musk didn't detail plans to replace the phone, so the ad could be seen as consumer-friendly, but not to be dismissed. Especially after Musk started The Boring Company because he once thought waiting in traffic was boring and he should start a car-powered underground tunneling company to get rid of that traffic.
