Jack Dorsey apologizes in response to Twitter mass layoffs

Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey responded to Elon Musk's mass layoffs by saying, "He's responsible for why everyone is in this situation. The responsibility to grow his business so quickly."

Jack Dorsey praised the resilience of Twitter employees:

Jack Dorsey wrote a blog post on Saturday praising his team's persistence, saying, “The people at Twitter are strong and resilient, no matter how difficult times are, they always find a way, and I know a lot of people who are.” After she had a baby for me. ...I take responsibility for why everyone is in this situation: Your business has grown so much. I apologize."

He added, "I am grateful to everyone who works and loves Twitter. I don't want to be reciprocated now or forever...I understand."

Elon Musk laid off as many as 3,700 Twitter employees - nearly half of the company's workforce - on Friday, affecting all areas of the company, and he fears it will hurt the company's efforts to edit content.

“With the company losing more than $4 million a day, he had no choice but to lay off employees,” Musk said.

Musk said that despite the numerous layoffs, "the company's policies haven't changed at all."

Twitter employees expressed their anger at the layoffs via Twitter tweets, and some decided to escalate the matter by filing lawsuits against Twitter.

Meanwhile, several major brands have closed their Twitter ads over the past few days, including: Volkswagen, General Motors, Pfizer and Audi. Some advertisers have also responded to pressure from rights groups to boycott the platform after layoffs and hate speech escalated.

Jack Dorsey in particular founded the Twitter platform in 2006: William Evans, Biz Stone, and (Noah Glass) Noah Glass. Dorsey served as Twitter's CEO twice before being fired again as the company's CEO in 2015 after he was fired in 2007.

Jack Dorsey, who had served as the company's CEO for six years, announced his retirement as CEO in November 2021, appointed Chief Technology Officer Parag Agrawal to succeed him and, after leaving the company, supported Musk's takeover of the company.

When Musk began buying Twitter in April, Dorsey said, "Musk is the only solution I can trust, and acquiring this company was the right thing to do."
