| Snapchat offers an advanced video editing tool with Director Mode |
Today, Thursday, Snapchat launched a new feature, Director Mode, which aims to provide users with more powerful video editing tools.
The director's mode feature, which was first launched last April and is now available worldwide on Android and iOS smartphones, includes a suite of tools for recording and editing videos for the Snapchat instant messaging service.
These tools include some popular on other platforms, such as B:Green Screen, which allows users to record videos with a background similar to the TikTok filter of the same name.
The dual camera feature previously available to iOS users supports BeReal-style functions to simultaneously capture photos or videos from the front and rear cameras.
Other tools include: Quick Edit, which allows users to cut and split videos into multiple parts, and a high-speed camera feature that speeds up or slows down videos. Director mode is available via a dedicated icon on the camera's main toolbar.
Users can use the director mode feature to create content to share with friends. However, the focus is on new editing tools as Snap tries to promote Spotlight rival TikTok.
Snapchat has launched several programs to try to get creators to create Spotlight videos, including: Challenges that reward the best videos with Snapchat's lens or audio.
Spotlight promotion is Snap's top priority. In an internal document released last September, CEO Evan Spiegel said he wants 30% of Snapchatters to use Spotlight daily by 2023.
The company recently told investors that Stories usage is declining, prompting Snap to shed 20% of its workforce by the summer of 2022.
It is worth noting that other platforms have updated their video editing tools to get closer to the Tik Tok experience. For example, the Instagram service connected to Meta has added many features to the short video Reels service, such as: b- The ability to import audio and create videos.
