Musk announces the first steps after taking over Twitter |
Billionaire Elon Musk not long ago posted his first tweet as the new owner of Twitter after finalizing a $44 billion takeover deal on Friday.
The richest man in the world focused in his tweet on the new steps he intends to take in managing Twitter, specifically monitoring what is posted on Twitter.
Musk previously said he would change the way Twitter monitors content, potentially easing various policies that led former President Donald Trump to permanently ban use of the platform.
"Twitter will form a Content Oversight Committee that will include a variety of viewpoints," Musk said in a tweet on Twitter. He added that "no major decisions or major re-calculations will be taken until this committee is convened."
Musk, a self-proclaimed "free speech authoritarian," said before taking control of Twitter that he believed the site was failing to live up to its stated principles of free speech, a view shared by other celebrities such as Donald Trump, his supporters, and many other personalities. Subscribers whose accounts will be restricted.
It should also be noted that the decision to acquire Twitter came after Elon posted a tweet in late March asking his followers whether the site was committed to the principles of freedom of expression and the need to create a new platform came into question.
Musk's tweet came after Trump welcomed the new Twitter owner, led by Elon Musk, on Friday, writing in his account on the Twitter-like social networking platform Truth Social: "Twitter is now happy in the hands of reason and not led by the crazy left wing and extremists who really hate our country."
Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints.
