| Meta Quest 3 VR headset specifications leaked |
Later this month, Meta will host this year's Connect conference, which is set to showcase the Quest Pro glasses.
The conference is scheduled for October 11, and Meta Connect 2022 will be the first since the company changed its name to Quest 2. However, expect the Meta Quest 2 glasses to be around for some time to come, with Quest 3 coming in the next few years.
Although the Quest 3 release date has yet to be announced, some specifications and images of the yet to be released VR headset have been leaked.
According to the leaks, the Quest 3, codenamed Stinson, will cost around $400 and offer fewer features than the Quest Pro, which is said to cost more than $1,000.
Unlike the upcoming PlayStation VR 2, Quest 3 will not support eye or face tracking. Apparently, this technology is way too expensive for a meta to fit into a $400 VR headset.
Instead, the Quest 3 has a quad-camera array and a 6-DOF depth-tracking sensor. It also uses an LCD screen instead of the OLED screen expected in the Quest Pro and PlayStation VR 2 glasses.
Quest 3 is said to be compatible with both Quest Pro Charging Station and Quest Pro Premium Controller.
According to the leak, the Quest 3 should see the return of the Pupil Wheel (IPD), which Oculus didn't offer in the Quest 2. Instead, the Quest 3 retains its previous soft strap, but with a 3.5mm jack and USB-C port. The Quest 3 will also feature a single fan design, only two physical buttons, and possibly the Quest 2's larger speakers.
Additionally, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor will likely be used to power the Quest 3 along with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
It is not known when Quest 3 will be released in 2023.
