Galaxy Z shipments could exceed Galaxy S shipments by 2025 |
Samsung expects the foldable Galaxy Z series to overtake the popular Galaxy S series in deliveries within three years. The current market conditions have led to a decline in sales of high-end smartphones, but new form factors are expected to stimulate the market.
Apparently, foldable devices will make up more than 50% of Samsung's total high-end smartphone shipments by 2025. Foldable devices are becoming the new standard for smartphones.
The foldable phone category is growing rapidly, growing 309% from 2020 to 2021 with total shipments of 9 million units, according to Omdia. Samsung's Z series accounts for the bulk, with combined sales of the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Z Fold3 reaching 7.1 million units by the end of the year (launched only in August 2021).
The cheaper Z Flip models are more popular in terms of numbers. For example, the Z Flip shipped about 4.6 million units out of the 7.1 million units shipped for the Z series last year. Phone stock grew by more than 1 million units in the first three months of the year, meaning that it alone accounted for half of all foldable device shipments in the first quarter of 2022.
