Buick converts only to electric cars |
Buick, the famous American auto maker owned by General Motors, has announced a series of major changes aimed at converting it to electric vehicles.
The company announced that it will launch its first electric car in the North American market in 2024. By the end of the decade, only electric cars will be sold.
His futuristic electric car is called the Electra, a reference to the company's past. It also showed off a new concept car called the Wildcat, meant to tease its electric future.
The car reflects future trends in design and technology for the 119-year-old brand, including a redesigned logo for the first time in more than 30 years.
The company's new logo revisits the brand's three coats of arms from the 1950s to highlight the brand's changes in a more modern way.
Buick is the latest car brand to launch General Motors (Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac) plans for electrification.
The company launched its first electric car earlier this year. It features a headlight that mirrors a Buick concept released a few years ago called the Electra.
But the company has now confirmed that the Electra name could be key to its efforts to only sell electric cars by the end of the decade.
"The Buick brand is committed to an electric future by the end of the century," the company said. Our new logo, use of the Electra decal collection, and new designs for our future products have changed the branding.
Buick introduces the Wildcat . concept
The Wildcat sports coupe concept aims to illustrate this change. The Wildcat is a leading manufacturer of electric vehicles.
It's also not very similar to the Electra concept that the company launched two years ago. The concept is an SUV crossover with gull doors.
In the past, the company has used the Wildcat and Electra names. The Wildcat was a full-size sedan produced from 1963 to 1970. The Electra was a sedan produced from the mid-1950s to the 1990s.
Buick is struggling with its reputation as a car brand for older Americans. But it is very popular in China and sales remain strong.
The company will likely use General Motors' new electric powertrain and Ultium battery system to power its future line of electric vehicles.
General Motors has said it will spend $35 billion on electric and self-driving cars by 2025. It aims to be a carbon neutral company by 2040.
